1. Always Warm Up.

One of the most significant things that you could do when it comes to training is warming up. Many dismiss it’s importance and is an afterthought because it’s not necessarily the most fun part of training. However, the truth is, it is an integral part of any training program.

This holds true with weightlifting more than most programs because of the stress that you are placing on your muscles and joints. Your warmup routine should incorporate a lot of general warm-up exercises that you have likely been doing before athletic activity your entire life such as jogging, stretching, and more. However, you will also want to focus on specific routines as well including lighter weight and even bodyweight squats and presses.

2. Work On Balance.

A lot of weightlifters fall into the pattern of working on the same muscles every time. The truth is, Olympic lifts require an incredible amount of balance in stabilizer muscles. Therefore, you should work on the areas of your body that might be the weakest. By focusing on the weak muscles and areas in your body, you should be able to boost the effectiveness of your lifts and enhance your technique at the same time.

3. Use The Right Equipment.

Everyone that is getting into lifting whether you are brand new or intermediate should have the right equipment. This includes everything from having proper shoes to an Olympic lifting bar and a large selection of weights. The cost of this equipment can build quickly, so it is probably best to find a proper Olympic weightlifting gym.

4. Seek Out a Coach.

While you might be able to train on your own for a while, if you want to become proficient and progress as quickly as efficiently as possible, you should seek out a trained coach to assist you.

5. Work On Techniques.

Another common trap that a lot of lifters fall into is not perfecting their technique before putting up the weight. Before ever lifting heavy weights, you should work on improving and perfecting your technique. You want to develop proficient technique before lifting heavy weight to avoid injury. Do not develop poor lifting techniques and habits which can plague you for a long time. Proper technique and minor adjustments can also facilitate heavier lifts.

6. Rest.

Rest is key when it comes to progressing with your lifts. You will need to schedule sufficient rest days or weeks to advance with your routines. You will not be able to continually lift heavy weights every day and expect to be able to make significant progress. Your body will need the proper recovery time to grow and get stronger.

7. Eat Right.

If you are going to be getting into Olympic weightlifting, one of the most important aspects to get right is your nutrition. Your nutrition affects your lifts. Eat right and progress is significantly heightened when you are looking to make huge strides in your strength.

8. Have a Plan.

When you are looking to progress as well as possible, you should have a plan and stick to it. Plan out everything from your lifts to your diet, and you should be able to prepare yourself for sustained growth.


9. Record Your Lifts.

You will want to try to video record your lifts to not only get feedback on your progress and technique but also to track progress for enhanced motivation.
